He is the founder and CEO of several organizations, including firms in financial planning, asset management, advisor support, fintech, and creative services. Early Life and Education
Ray was raised in a family that strongly emphasized financial principles. His father introduced him to the Buckets of MoneyⓇ strategy, a retirement planning model that sparked his early interest in financial education and long-term planning.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University. This academic foundation supported his early work as a CPA and laid the groundwork for his development into a financial advisor and business leader.
Entrepreneurial Ventures and Leadership Roles
After starting his career in accounting, he went on to build and lead multiple companies that operate within an integrated wealth management structure.
Lucia Capital Group (LCG)

Quotient Advisor Community

It provides weekly virtual meetings with industry professionals, peer-driven masterminds, and ongoing educational resources. Members also have access to a planning framework and software tool designed to help advisors present retirement income strategies clearly and effectively.
15 Equity
In 2014, he acquired a Santa Barbara-based investment firm and relaunched it in 2020 under a new brand. The firm’s approach is concentrated, typically managing portfolios of about 15 companies with stable revenue, strong balance sheets, and defensible market positions. Its flagship strategy has been in place for over 20 years and is used by both private clients and financial advisors nationwide.
BucketsFP
Ray created this fintech platform to help advisors design and manage retirement bucket strategies. It is built for enterprise use and is fully customizable, allowing firms to apply their own branding, compliance policies, and system preferences. The tool helps advisors visualize and implement structured retirement income plans for their clients.

Ray leads this internal creative and operations firm that supports financial advisors with branding, content development, and business infrastructure. On the creative side, the team develops brand messaging and communication materials. On the operational side, the firm offers services such as accounting, real estate, payroll, employee benefits, and marketing support, allowing advisors to grow their businesses with reduced overhead.
Prior Leadership Roles
His leadership experience includes serving as CEO of a FINRA-registered broker-dealer from 2010 to 2021 and of a registered investment adviser from 2011 to 2020. During this time, he also served as Portfolio Manager and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for a closed-end interval fund focused on alternative investments. These positions gave him in-depth experience in managing advisory, investment, and regulatory operations.
Media and Thought Leadership
In 2024, he launched the Vaulted Views Podcast, recorded inside an actual bank vault. The show explores themes such as business growth, client service, and long-term thinking. The “Vaulted View” represents a strategic mindset that contrasts with reactive, short-term decision-making and supports sustainable business practices in financial services.

In 2016, he was honored with the AICPA Standing Ovation Award, recognizing 22 CPAs under 40 for excellence in financial planning. He has also been nominated for the Vistage Lifetime Achievement Award and the CEO of the Year award. He was listed among The 500 Most Influential People In San Diego by the San Diego Business Journal. Additionally, his contributions have been recognized by organizations such as the Rotary Club and the regional Business Chamber for his civic leadership and involvement.
Philanthropy and Community Engagement
For over a decade, he has supported The Country Friends in Rancho Santa Fe, contributing to initiatives that focus on children, families, and healthcare. He also supports Cathedral Catholic High School and local youth sports programs.
Beyond sponsorship, he mentors small business owners, helping them address growth challenges and implement systems for sustainable success. He works with local businesses and civic organizations to strengthen his community’s economic and social development.
Personal Life
He places a high value on family. He and his wife recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They have two children, one is an NCAA basketball player, and the other is a high school student involved in golf and boxing.
Ray Lucia Jr. continues to focus on building platforms, tools, and strategies that support financial advisors and guide families toward long-term financial security.
